Amaç: Bu çalışmayla gençlerin intihar girişimlerinin özelliklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntem: İntihar girişimi olan 31 genç ile, genel durumları düzeldikten sonra 2-7 gün içinde görüşülmüş; demografik özelliklerinin ve intihar girişiminin özelliklerinin irdelendiği, tarafımızdan hazırlanan görüşme formu kullanılmıştır.
Sonuçlar: İntihar girişimi kızlarda erkeklere göre iki misli daha sıktır. Olguların 19'u (% 61.3) daha önce de intihar girişiminde bulunmuştur. En sık kullanılan yöntem yüksek dozda ilaç alımıdır. İntihar girişiminden önce intihar düşüncesi olanların oranı % 77.4, intihar planı olanların oranı % 48.4, girişimin olası sonuçlarını düşünenlerin oranı ise % 25.8'dir. İntihar düşüncesinden sözedenlerin oranı % 38.7, bir psikoloğa/psikiyatriste başvuranların oranı % 12.9'dur. Kendine zarar verici/riskli davranış gösterenlerin oranı % 67.7'dir. Olguların % 83.8'inde intihar girişimini tetikleyen bir olay olduğu saptanmıştır. İntihar girişiminde rol oynayan nedenler incelendiğinde % 74.2'si sorunlarla başedemeyeceğini düşünerek ölümü kurtuluş olarak gördüğünü bildirmiştir.
Tartışma: Geçmiş intihar girişimi öyküsü veya kendine zarar verici/riskli davranışları olan gençlerde intihar olasılığının yüksek olduğu gözönünde bulundurularak daha dikkatli olunması ve erken psikiyatrik takip ve tedaviye alınmaları gerekmektedir. Genç intihar girişimleri genellikle olumsuz bir yaşam olayının tetiklemesiyle ve olası sonuçlar üzerinde düşünülmeden, bu anlamda impulsif biçimde gerçekleşmektedir. Çalışmamızda saptanan ve başka çalışmayla da desteklenen en sık neden, sorunlarla başedemeyeceğini düşünerek ölümü kurtuluş olarak görmedir.
Sonuç olarak gençlerin sorunlara karşı tahammülsüz oluşu, başetme ve problem çözme becerilerinin yetersiz olmasından yola çıkılarak tedavi ve intiharları önlemede problem çözme, başetme becerilerinin kazandırılması etkili olabilir.

Aim: The aim of this study is to identify the characteristics of the young suicide attempts.
Method: 31 youngsters who have attempted to commit suicide were interviewed after 2 to 7 days of the attempt and an interview form that was prepared by the researchers to examine the characteristics of demographics and suicide attempts was used.
Results: Girls' suicide attempts are twice as much as the boys'. 19 of the cases (61.3 %) have attempted suicide before. The most frequent method is overdose medication. There rate of the ones who had suicide ideation before the attempt is 77.4 %, the rate of the ones who had a suicide plan before the attempt is 48.4 %, the rate of the ones who thought about the possible results of this attempt is 25.8 %. The rate of the ones who talked about suicide thoughts is 38.7 %. 12.9 % of the attempters had applied for help to a psycholog or psychiatrist. The rate of the ones who had selfdestructive/risky behaviors is 67.7 %. In 83.8 % of the cases an event that triggers the suicide attempt is found. When the reasons of the suicide attempts are analyzed, it is seen that 74.2 % of the cases think that they could not deal with the problems they have and that death is the only salvation.
Discussion: Considering the high rate of suicide attempts in the young people who have previous suicide attempt or who have self-destructive-risky behaviors, they need to be approached more carefully and be taken under early psychiatric follow-up and treatment. Young suicide attempts generally occur rather impulsively, by the triggering effect of a negative life event without thinking of the possible results. The most common reason found in this study and supported by another study is to see death as a way of salvation by thinking that the problems cannot be coped with.
As a result, as the young people are intolerant with problems and lack problem solving and coping skills, for treatment and prevention of suicides, problem solving skills and coping skills can be gained to the individuals
