İskemik serebral olaylarda sensitivitesi yüksek olan manyetik rezonans görüntüleme (MRG) migren ile iskemik değişiklikler arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmak amacıyla birçok araştırmacı tarafından kullanılmıştır. Migrenlilerde ak maddede T2'de hiperintens fokuslar son yıllardaki çalışmalarda % 12 ile % 46 arasında değişen oranlarda bildirilmektedir. Bu çalışmalarda elde edilen çok farklı oranlar nedeniyle biz geniş bir hasta grubunda, daha gerçekçi bir prevalans saptamak amacıyla araştırma yaptık. Ak madde lezyonları açısından medikal risk faktörü olmayanlar migren hastalarında, ak madde lezyonları ile yaş, cinsiyet, migren tipi ve süresi arasındaki ilişkiyi inceledik.

The increased sensivity of MRI in detecting ischemic changes has prompted a number of investigators to use this modality to examine the association of migraine phenomena with ischemic changes.Hyperintense foci within the white matter on T2-weighted MR images have been reported in the range of 12 % to 46 % recently. Because of this wide range of estimated prevalences and the small number of patients assessed, we examined a larger series to better estimate the prevalence of white matter abnormalities in patients with migraine .Based on these patients, we evaluated the associations of MRI white matter abnormalities with age, sex, migraine type ,duration of symptoms in patients without concomitant medical risk factors for white matter changes
