Yeme bozuklukları kronik seyirli, mortalitesi yüksek bir tablodur. Bugün için tedavi oranları düşüktür. Bunun sebeplerinden biri de biyolojisi hakkındaki verilerin yetersiz olmasıdır. Bu bozuklukta görülen çekirdek semptomların 5-HT ile muhtemel ilişkisi, bu sistemin üzerinde durulmasına sebep olmuştur. Diğer yandan başta leptin olmak üzere bir çok peptidin bulunması, bu konu ile ilgili bilgilerin artmasını sağlamıştır.

Eating disorders are chronic conditions with a significant risk of mortality. Eating disorders respond poorly to the available treatment modalities. One important reason for this difficulty is scarcity of information on the biological basis of these disorders. Among many aspects under investigation is the core disease symptoms which are related to 5-HT system of the brain. Discovery of the many related peptide systems, particularly of leptin has recently led to a rapid surge of related literature.
