Amaç: Bu çalışmada zabıta memurlarında sigara içme
ve depresyon sendromunun düzeyi ile bunları etkileyen
faktörlerin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipteki bu araştırma
Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesinde görev yapan 157 zabıta
memurunda yapıldı. Sosyodemografik özellikleri ve sigara
içme durumlarını belirlemek için bir anket uygulandı.
Depresyon durumu ile ilgili veriler Beck Depresyon Ölçeği
(BDÖ) ile elde edildi.
Bulgular: Çalışma grubunun %99.4’ü erkek (n=156),
%79,6’sı (n=125) ortaokul ve lise eğitimli, %96,8’i (n=152)
evli ve yaş ortalaması 39,33±7,29 (min=22, max=57), 115’i
(%73,2) bu mesleği isteyerek seçmişlerdi, 98’i (%62,4)
görevleri sırasında en az bir kere mahkemelik olmuşlardı,
117’si (%74,5) borçlu idi. Halen sigara içme sıklığı %49.1
(n=77), bırakma sıklığı %26.7% (n=42), hiç içmeme sıklığı
%24.2 (n=38) idi. Sigaraya başlamada en küçük yaş 5, en
büyük yaş 40, ortanca değer 18 yaş idi. Sosyal faktörler
sigaraya başlamada en önemli etkendi (%49.4). Beck
Depresyon Ölçeği sonuçlarına göre, %52,2’si(n=82)
normaldi, %23,6’sı(n=37) hafif depresyonda, %21,7’si (n=34)
orta derecede, %2.5 (n=4) ağır depresyonda idi.
Sonuç: Bu çalışmada zabıtaların yaklaşık yarısı
sigara içmekte ve depresyonda idi. Zabıtalarda ileride
ortaya çıkabilecek olan depresyonun olumsuz etkilerini
önlemek için; halen yaygın olan stres faktörlerinin orijinini
anlamak önemlidir. Ayrıca, polislere yönelik sigara bırakma
kampanyalarına ivedilikle ihtiyaç vardır.

Objective: We aimed to determine the smoking status
and the level of depression syndrome and the contributing
factors among the municipal polices in this study.
Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was
carried out among 157 municipal police officers working
at the Municipal Department of Konya. To determine the
socio-demographic characteristics and smoking status,
a questionnaire was applied. The depression level was
evaluated by the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI).
Results: Among the study group, 156 (99.4%) were
men, 125 (79.6%) had education at secondary or high school
level, 152 (96.8%) were married and mean age 39,33±7,29
(min=22, max=57), 115 (73.2%) participants had selected
this occupation willfully, 98 (62.4%) had been to court once
during their job, 117 (74.5%) were indebted. In addition,
49.1% (n=77) were current smokers, 24.2% (n=38) were exsmokers
and 26.7% (n=42) never smokers. The lowest age
at starting smoking was 5, the highest age was 40 and the
median value was 18. Social factors (49.4%) were the most
important reasons to start smoking. According to the results
of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI); 52.2% (n=82),
23.6 %(n=37), 21.7%(n=34), 2.5%(n=4) were normal, mild,
moderate, severe depression respectively.
Conclusion: In this study, approximately half of the
municipal police officers had depressive symptoms and
they were smokers. To prevent the negative manifestation
of depression that might occur in the future, it is important
to understand the origins of the stressors that are currently
prevalent among the municipal police. An effective and
comprehensive tobacco control program is urgently required
for them.
