Amaç: Bu çalışmada gazetelerde yayınlanan intihar haberlerine ilişkin tutumlar araştırılmıştır. Araştırmaya 25"i hasın mensubu, 21'i hemşire, 28'i doktor, 39'u memur, 38'i psikolog ve 34'ü üniversite öğrencisi olmak üzere toplam 185 denek katılmıştır. Yöntem : Araştırmada veri toplamak amacıyla araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen bir tutum ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Sonuçlara göre denekler, gazetelerde yayınlanan intihar haberlerini ara sıra izlemektedirler ve bu haberler sonucunda yaşanan temel duygu üzüntü olmaktadır. Gazetelerde yer alan intihar haberlerinin, fotoğrafsız ayrıntı içermeyen, yorumsuz, intihar konusunda yanlış bilgilere yol açmayan kısa bilgi halinde iç veya son sayfalarda yer almasının tercih edildiğine işaret etmektedir. Araştırma sonucu ortaya çıkan diğer önemli bir bulgu da, bu tür haberlerin yayınlanmasına, yukarıda belirtilen ölçütler içinde sınırlama getirilmesi isteğidir. Tartışma: Veriler, gruplararası farklar yönünden de incelenmiş ve konu kapsamında yapılan tartışmalar çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır.

Objective: In this study attitudes towards suicide news, published in the newspapers were investigated. The study consisted of a questionaire to be filled by a total of 185 subjects, of nurses, psychologists psychiatrits Journalists officials and college students. Method: As an instrument an attitude scale which the writers developed was used. Results: We concluded that the suicide news was not read regularly by the subjects. The affective response was sadness. The items mostly prefered by the individuals were as follows: suicidal news i) should not be published with a photograpy ii) should be brief and conscise iii) should not be placed in the front page but on the last or inner pages iv) should not contain a dramatic scheme which may cause misconceptions and lead the reader to suicidal behavior. Conclusion: Results were disscussed in the light of the literature.
