Amaç: Bu çalışma, Marmara Üniversitesi Hemşirelik Yüksekokulu son sınıf öğrencilerinde empati becerileri ile psikiy­atri hemşireliği dersi uygulaması arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini bir hemşirelik yüksekokulu son sınıf öğrencileri (N-65), örneklemini ise bu öğrenciler­den araştırmaya katılmayı kabul edenler oluşturmuştur (n=50). Veriler, "Bilgi formu" ve "Empati Beceri Ölçeği (EBÖ)-B Formu" kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin empati becerilerine ilişkin veriler Psikiyatri Hemşireliği Dersi uygu­laması öncesi ve sonrası EBÖ-B ile toplanmış ve ölçek, empati beceri puan ortalamalarını değiştirmemesi açısından ismi verilmeden uygulanmıştır.
Bulgular: Empati becerileri ile psikiyatri hemşireliği dersi uygulamasının arasında anlamlı bir ilişki saptanmış, uygula­ma sonrası öğrencilerin empati becerileri puanlarının yükseldiği bulunmuştur.
Tartışma: Çalışmamız kapsamında, psikiyatri hemşireliği dersi uygulamasının öğrencilerin empati becerilerini arttır­masına yönelik sonucunun çeşitli çalışma bulguları ile benzerlik göstermesi, psikiyatri hemşireliği dersi uygulama ortamının öğrencilerin empati becerilerinin geliştirilmesinde etkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.

Objective: The present study was conducted in order to define the relationships between psychiatric nursing course practice and emphatic skills possessed by the last [year] students at the Nursing College of the University of Marmara. Method: The scope of the research consisted the last [year] students (N-65) at a nursing college, and the sample includ­ed those who accepted to partake in the research (n=50). Data were obtained using "Information Form" and "Emphatic Skill Scale (ESS)- B Form". Data related to students' emphatic skills were collected by ESS-B before and after the Psychiatry Nursing course practice, and the scale was applied on an anonymous basis in order not to alter emphatic skill score averages.
Results: A meaningful relation was defined between the emphatic skills and psychiatry nursing course, with increased emphatic skill scores after the application.
Conclusion: That the results of our study have shown similarities with those of several other studies concerning the pos­itive effect of psychiatry nursing course on students' emphatic skills demonstrate that the environment of psychiatry nursing practice is influential for students in improving their emphatic skills.
