Multipl Sklerozda Kognitif ve Psikiyatrik Bozukluklar

Bu çalışmada, 490 MS olgusunun mental değişiklik gösteren 69'u (% 14) incelenmiştir, öfori (% 4), depresyon (% 4), patolojik ağlama ve gülme (% 2) en sık rastlanan semptomlar olmuştur. Dört olgu, bipolar afektif bozukluk gösterirken; hastalık, iki olguda psikotik belirtilerle ortaya çıkmıştır. Nöropsikolojik testlerin uygulandığı 20 hastadan 12'sinde patolojik sonuçlar alınmıştır. Bellek süreçlerinin ön planda bozulduğu görülmüştür. Böylece MS'te hem psikiyatrik hem de kognitif fonksiyon bozukluklannın, göz ardı edilemeyecek düzeyde olduğu ve piramidal, serebellar ve diğer bulgular kadar önem taşıdığı; ön planda, hatta diğer bulgular olmaksızın bile ortaya çıkabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.
Cognitive and Psychiatric Abnormalities in Multiple Sclerosis
We studied 69 patients (14%) who experienced congitive and psychiatric changes among 490 patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Euphoria (4 %), depression (4 %), pathological laughing and weeping (2 %) were seen to be the most common symptoms. Four cases showed bipolar affective disorders and two cases were presented with acute psychosis. Neuropsychological tests were used in 20 patients, and 12 showed pathological results. Memory processes were seen to be preferentially impaired. It was concluded that both psychiatric and cognitive abnormalities would not be ignored, and were as important as pyramidal, cerebellar and other manifestations, and they could appear predominantly, even without other manifestations in MS.
