Psikotrop ilaç kullanımının oldukça büyük boyutlarda olduğu bildirilmiştir. Pratisyen hekimlerle iç hastalıkları uzmanlarının diğer dallara göre daha sık psikotrop ilaç yazdığı ifade edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada literatüre göre oldukça önemli boyutlarda olduğu bilinen psikotrop ilaç kullanma bilgisinden yola çıkılarak çeşitli nitelikteki, tam teşekküllü hastanelerde psikiyatri dışı uzmanlık dallarına mensup hekimlerce resmi reçetelere psikotrop ilaç yazma sıklığının saptanması amaçlanmıştır. 1991 yılı Nisan ve Mayıs aylarında yürütülen çalışmada, çalışma alanı eğitim veren devlet hastanesi niteliğindeki ASS İzmir Devlet Hastanesi, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Hastanesi ve 600 yataklı Hava Hastanesi çevresindeki eczaneler olarak seçilmiştir. Her hafta cuma günleri rastgele girilen bir eczanede bulunan resmi reçetelerin taranması sureti ile devlet hastanesi kaynaklı 269, üniversite hastanesi kaynaklı 344. askeri hastane kaynaklı 162 olmak üzere toplam 775 resmi reçete çalışmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur, incelenen 775 resmi reçetenin 55'ine (%7) psikotrop ilaç yazıldığı, kadın hastalara erkek hastalara göre d ah a sık psikotrop ilaç yazıldığı (%9-%4), psikotrop ilaçların en sıklıkla nöroloji (%21.4), fizik tedavi ve rehabilitasyon (%16.6) ve kardiyoloji uzmanlarınca yazıldığı, antidepresanların en sık yazılan psikotrop ilaç grubunu oluşturduğu (%52) saptanmıştır.

It has been reported that psychotropic drugs are widly prescribed. It has been denoted that practitioners and internists prescribe psychotropic drugs more frequently than other specialists. In this study, basing on the knowledge that prescribing psychotropic drugs is widespread, it is aimed to determine the frequency of prescribed psychotropic drugs on the official priscriptions by non-psychiatric experts at general hospitals. This study was completed in April and May, 1991. Pharmacies around ASS Izmir State hospital, a training institation one, and Dokuz Eylül University Hospital and Air Force Military Hospital with 600 beds were selected as study fields. By reviewing official prescriptions in deliberate chosen pharmacies every week on friday during two months, 775 prescriptions (269 fron the state hospital, 344 from the university hospital, 162 from the military hospital) were studied. Of all prescriptions, it was of the priscriptions; psychotropic drugs were prescribed for females (%9) rather than for males (%4); psychotropic drugs were therapists (% 16.6) and cardiologists (% 14.2), physical form the most frequently prescribed drug group.
