Pizotifen benzosikloheptatiofen türevi olan trisiklik bir bileşiktir ve migrenin proşaktik tedavisinde kullanılmaktadır. Bazı çalışmalarda, pizotifenin antidepresan eskisinin de bulunduğu ve trisikliklerden çok tetrasiklik antidepresan profiline sahip olduğu ileri sürülmüştür. Bu çalışmada gerilim başağrılı depressif hastalarda pizotifenin antidepresan etkisin araştırılmış ve trazodon kadar etkili olduğu bulunmuştur.
The Antidepressant Effect of Pizotifen in Depressed Patients with Tension Headache - A Controlled Study with Trazodone and Placebo-
Pizotifen, a tricyclic compound is a derivative of benzocycloheptathiophene and it is used in the prophylaxis of migraine. In some studies, it has been claimed that pizotifen has also an antidepressant effect and displays rather a tetracyclic antidepressant profile than a tricyclic one. In this study, we evaluated the antidepressant effect of pizotifen in depressed patients with tension headache and found that pizotifen is as effective as trazodone.
