Amaç: Araştırma huzurevinde yaşayan yaşlıların depresyon ve anksiyete düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla tanımlayıcı nitelikte yapılmıştır. Yöntem: 1-15 Ekim 2004 tarihleri arasında Gaziantep Huzurevi’nde kalan 71 yaşlı örnekleme alınmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan, sosyodemografik değişken-leri ve yaşlıları tanıtıcı bilgileri içeren görüşme formu, depresyon düzeylerini belirlemek için Geriatrik Depresyon Ölçeği ve anksiyete düzeylerini belirlemek için Beck Anksiyete Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin değerlen-dirilmesinde yüzdelik hesaplaması, Student t-testi ve one way ANOVA yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre; yakınıyla görüşme durumu, yaşlılığa bakış açısı, çocuk sayısı, sağlığı algılama durumu, kurumda boş zamanların değerlendirilmesi ve etkinliklere katılma istekliliği ile depresyon puan ortalamaları arasında etkileşim belirlenmiştir (p<0.05). Yaşlıların kurumda kalış süresi, sağlığı algılama durumu ve kronik hastalık durumu boyutlarının anksiyete düzeyini anlamlı olarak yükselttiği saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Tartışma: Huzurevinde yaşayan yaşlılara yönelik sağlık hizmetleri götürmenin gerekliliği ve önemi görülmektedir. Kurumda boş zamanların değerlendirilmesi ve sosyal etkinliklerin planlanmasının anksiyete ve depresyon düzeyini olumlu yönde etkileyeceği düşünülmektedir.

Objective: This study prepared for the old people who live in the nursing home and our aim is to find out the level of the old age depression and their anxiety. Methods: The research range is the 71 people who live in the Gaziantep Nursing Home, between 01-15 October 2004. Data collecting method was the form which prepared by the researcher included socioldemographic variables and for measuring their depression levels, Geriatric Depression measure and for measuring their anxiety levels, Beck Anxiety measure has been applied. For the evaluation of the percentage of the data which have already been collected by Student t-test and the method of one way ANOVA. Findings: From the results of the research; the condition of interview with their companion, the view of old age structure, the number of children, the feelings of their health, the evaluation of spare time in the nursing home and the desire of activity, the average of the grades have been determined (p<0.05). The period of remaining in the nursing home of old people, the state of perceiving and the level of chronic illness are determined to increase the level of anxiety (p<0.05). Discussion: It is seen that, providing health services to the old people who live in the nursing home is very necessary and important. It is thought that, evaluation of the spare time and planning of the social activities will affect the level of depression and anxiety in positive way.
