Şizofreni kavramıyla ilgili önyargılar ve bunların neden olduğu damga yalnızca hastaları değil yakınlarını ve tedaviyi üstlenen profesyonelleri de olumsuz etkilemektedir. Damga ayırımcılığa yol açar. Hastalar kendilerine şizofreni tanısı konduğu için iş bulmakta zorlanır, sağlık hizmetine ulaşmakta, başkalarıyla yakınlaşmakta ek güçlükler yaşarlar. Bu yazıda şizofreniyle ilgili damganın kökenleri gözden geçirilecek ayrıca, toplumun her kesiminde yaygın kabul gören bazı önyargılar ve bunlarla ilgili gerçeklere yer verilecektir.
