Bu çalışmada çeşitli çevresel etkenlerin çocuk gelişimi düzeyi ile ilişkileri araştırılmıştır. 0-6 yaşındaki 860 çocuğun gelişim düzeyleri yazarların geliştirmiş olduğu Ankara Gelişim tarama Envanteri ile değerlendirilmesinde “Aile Anketi” ve “Çocuk-Çevre Anketi” kullanılmıştır. Demografik değişkenlerin yanısıra Çocuk-Çevre Anketinden geliştirilen 6 indeksin gelişim düzeyi ile ilişkisi çoklu regresyon analiz deseni içinde incelenmiştir. 0-2 yaş örnekleminde uygulanan basamaklı çoklu regresyon analizi sonucunda yaş, “Çevresel İndeks”, “Annenin Sözel İfade Gücü” ve annenin sağlığı değişkenlerinin varyansın %92 sini açıkladığı bulunmuştur. 2-6 yaş grubunda ise önemli bulunan değişkenler yaş, “Çevresel Uyaranlar İndeksi”, “Annenin Sözel İfade Gücü” ve annenin çocuktan hoşnutluğudur (R= .81). Aynı analizler alt sosyo-ekonomik örneklemde tekrarlanmış ve 2 yaşına kadar olan çocuklarda yaş, annenin çocuktan hoşnutluğu ve evde yaşayan kişi sayısı; iki yaşdan büyük çocuklarda ise yaş, “Annenin Sözel İfae Gücü”, aylık gelir, “Çevresel Uyaranlar İndeksi” ve hamilelik riski gelişim düzeyini yordayıcı değişkenler olarak bulunmuştur. Gelişim düzeyi ortalamanın altında ve üstünde olanların karşılaştırılmasında anne ve baba eğitimi ve “Annenin Sözel İfade Gücü” nün anlamlı olarak farklı olduğu görülmüştür. Sonuçlar gelişim psikolojisi kuram ve bulguları çerçevesinde tartışılmıştır.

Developmental levels of children 0-6 [year]s of age were determined by Ankara Developmental Screening Inventory which was developed by the authors. Two other questionnaires were administered to mothers of 860 children to assess environmental variables. The Family Questionnaire included questions on demographic variables and also on mother, father and child characteristics. The Child-Environment questionnaire consisted of questions related to home millieu. Six indices were computed based on this questionnaire. Stepwwise multiple regression analysis were performed with the sample of children upto 2 [year]s of age. R of .96 were found explaining 92% of the variance. The significant predictors were age, “SES proxy”, “Mother’s [language] Capacity” and mother’s health. The multiple regression analysis for children 2 [year]s and older yielded R= .81. Four variables explained 66% of the variance. These were: age, “Environmental Stimulation”, “Mother’s [language] Capacity” and satisfaction with child. The multiple regression analysis were repeated Multiple R of .99 was found for children 0-2 [year]s of age. Five variables accounted for 66% of the for children 2 [year]s old and older (R= .81). Two extreme groups formed according to developmental levels (one S.D. above and below the mean) were also compared with respect to environmental variables. Mother’s and father’s educational levels and “Mother’s [language] Capacity” were found to be significantly higher for high scorers than low scorers. The results were discussed in relation to other research findings.
