Bu araştırma Ankara’daki üniversitelerde öğrenim gören gençlerin madde kullanımının boyutlarını saptamak için yapılmıştır. Seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemiyle 1382 öğrenciye kimlik istenmeyen geniş bir soru listesi uygulanmıştır. Sorgulanan maddeler için yaşam boyu en az bir kere kullanımın aşağıdaki oranlarda olduğu görülmüştür. Sigara %60, çay %91, kahve %84, alkol %70, diğer bağımlılık yapıcı madeler ve ilaçlar %5-9 arasında. Zaman aralığı daraldıkça (son bir yıl, son bir ay, hergün en az bir kez) kullanım oranları da giderek azalmaktadır. bu bulgular tarama çalışmalarının genel sınırlılıklarını taşımakla birlikte, ülkemizde üniversite gençliğinde bağımlılık yapıcı madde ve ilaç kullanımı açısından ilk geniş verileri oluşturmaktadır.

The aim of the present study was to assess the extent of substance use among university students in Ankara. A modified form of the Youth Survey Questionnaire was administered to 1382 students via random sampling. The ratio of subjects reporting at least once in lifetime use for the investigated substances were established as follows: 60% for tobacco, 91% for tea, 84% for coffee, 70% for alcohol, 5%-9% for the other (dependency inducing) substances or drugs. As the frequency of use gets higher, the percentage of users gets lower. Although our investigation bears the general limitations of population surveys. It provides the data concerning substance and drug use in Turkish university students.
