Çocuk istismarının ağır bir türü olan Munchausen by Proxy Sendromu, bir erişkin tarafından çocuğa yapay hastalık belirtilerinin oluşturulması ile karakterize karmaşık bir istismar türüdür. Çocuk genelde defalarca hastaneye getirilmekte ve yapılan incelemelerde çocuğun hastaneye başvuru nedenine yönelik patolojik hiçbir veri saptanamamaktadır. Buna rağmen ebeveyn tarafından çocuğa yüklenen yapay semptomlar devamlılık göstermektedir. Bu bozukluğa sahip bakım vericilerin teşhisi oldukça zordur. Bu nedenle hemşirelerin Munchausen by Proxy Sendromu belirtilerini tanıyabilmesi çocuğun bu tip bir fiziksel istismardan korunması açısından önemlidir. Bu derlemede Munchausen by Proxy Sendromu'nun epidemiyolojisi, prognozu ve tedavisi, bozukluğa multidisipliner yaklaşım ve hemşirelerin bu süreçteki aktif rolü tartışılacaktır.

Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome, a severe form of child abuse, is a complex type of abuse characterized by the formation of artificial disease symptoms by an adult. The child is usually brought to the hospital several times and no examinations can reveal any pathological data on the cause of the child's admission to the hospital. Nevertheless, the artificial symptoms that are loaded on the child by the parent show continuity. The diagnosis of caregivers with this disorder is rather difficult. For this reason, it is important for the nurses to be able to recognize the symptoms of Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome in order to protect the child from such a kind of physical abuse.
