Bu çalışmada 12 distimik bozukluklu (DB) ve 15 majör depresyonlu (MD) hasta ile 12 sağlıklı denek olmak üzere toplam 39 adet kadın denek alınmıştır. Yaptığımız karşılaştırmalar sonucunda DB ve kontrol grubu arasında gerek deksametazon süpresyon testi (DST), gerekse TRH’a TSH, PRL ve GH yanıtları açısından anlamlı bir farklılık saptanamamıştır. MD grubunda, DB ve kontrol grubuna göre, anlamlı olarak deksametazon sonrası kortizol düzeylerinde süpresyondan kaçma ve TRH’a TSH yanıtlarında azalma gözlenmiştir. Bu bulgular, duygulanım bozuklukları kapsamında değerlendirilmelerine karşın DB ve MD’un farklı mekanizmalar sonucu gelişmiş olabileceğini ve bu iki depresif bozukluğun ayırımında deksametazon sonrası kortizol düzeylerinin ve TRH testinin kullanılabileceğini düşündürmektedir.

Twelve patients with dysthymic disorder (DD), 15 with major depression (MD) and 12 healthy subjects were included in this study. The differences between DD and healthy subjects were not significant with regard to the results of either dexamethasone supression test (DST) or TSH, PRL and GH response to TRH. MD group, compared with DD and control groups, showed a significant decrease in TSH response to TRH and significantly more nonsuppression of cortisole level after DST. These findings suggested that, although MD and DD were both classified under the category of affective disorders, their occurence might depend on different mechanisms, and post-dexamethasone cortisol level and TRH tests could be used in the differentiation of these depressive disorders.
