Ölüme ilişkin Depresyon Ölçeğinin Türkçe Çevirisinin Normal Populasyonda Geçerlik ve Güvenilirlik Çalışması

Amaç: Bu çalışmanan temel amacı, Templer ve arkadaşları tarafından geliştirilmiş olan “Ölüme İlişkin Depresyon Ölçeği” (ÖDÖ)’nin Türkçe çevirisinin geçerliğini ve güvenilirliğini araştırmaktır.
Yöntem: İlk önce, ÖDÖ’nin İngilizce metni uzmanlarca Türkçe’ye çevrilmiş; daha sonra en uygun olduğu düşünülen çevri metni, uyum geçerliğini saptamak amacıyla seçilen diğer ölçeklerle (Beck Depresyon Ölçeği, Templer Ölüm Kaygısı Ölçeği ve Spielberger Durumluk-Sürekli Kaygı Ölçeği gibi) birlikte örneklem grubuna tek oturumda uygulanmıştır.
Bulgular: Toplanan formlar istatistik değerlendirmeye alınmış; yarıya bölme ve test tekrar test teknikleri ile hesaplanan güvenilirlik katsayılarının sırasıyla r= .54; r= .79 oldukları gözlenmiştir. İçsel tutarlılık ölçütü olan Cornbach alpha katsayısı ise a= 90.74 bulunmuştur. Ölçeğin geçerliği ile ilgili olarak yapılan hesaplamalarda ÖDÖ ile Templer Ölüm Kaygısı Ölçeği arasındaki korelason (r= .77); Beck Depresyon Ölçeği ile arasındaki korelasyon ise (r= .39) olarak bulunmuştur. Tüm örneklem grubu üzerinde uygulanan Temel Bileşenler faktör analizi sonucunda, ölçeğin yapısını oluşturan altı faktör belirlenmiştir: “Ölüm depresyonu”, “hayatın anlamı”, “ölüm yanlızlığı”, “ölümsüzlük inancı”, “ölüme ilişkin hüzün” ve “ölüm kaygısı”.
Sonuç: Elde edilen bulgular, ÖDÖ’nün Türkçe formunun, örneklem grubumuzda olduğu gibi psikiyatrik tanı almamış (normal) kişiler üzerinde yapılacak araştırmalarda kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek olduğuna işaret etmektedir. Ancak, klinik araştırmalarla klinik geçerliğinin de ortaya konması geremektedir.
A Study On The Reliability and Validity of the Turkish Version of Death Depression Scale in the Normal Population
Objective: The main objective of the present study is to provide psychometric data on the Turkish Version of the “Death Depression Scale” (DDS) developed by Templer et al.
Method: DDS was translated into Turkish and then the most proper translation of the English text was applied to a sampling group together with some other scales (i.e. Beck Depression Scale, Templer Death Anxiety Scale, Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Scale) selected as criterion in order to determine the concurrent validity in one session.
Results: The results of statistical analysis showed that reliability coefficient calculated by using split-half technique was r= .54. Reliability coefficient found through test-retest was r= .79. The Cronbach’s alpha was calculated as a= 0.74. In calculations done in relation to the validity of the scale, the correlation between DDS and Templer Death Anxiety Scale was r= .77; between DDS and Beck Depression Scale was r= .39. Principal Components factor analysis applied on the whole sample revealed six factors constituting the scale’s main frame: “Death depression”, “the meaning of life”, “the loneliness of death”, “the belief of immortality”, “grief” and “death anxiety”.
Conclusion: Obtained findings suggest that the Turkish Version of Templer’s Death Depression Scale is a valid and reliable tool that could be employed in the researches on the concept of death among the normal population. But, it is necessary to show the clinical validity of the instrument in clinic studies.
