İntersübjektivite, özellikle benlik psikolojisi çerçevesinde geliştirilmiş ve şimdilerde giderek başlı başına bir kuramın da adı olmuş bir kavram. Öyle görünüyor ki, son on yılı aşkın dönemde psikanalizdeki en önemli gelişme, intrapsişik fenomenlerin, içinde yer aldıkları etkileşimsel bağlamlarında ele alınmaları gerektiği düşüncesinin giderek kabul görmesidir. Bu yeni psikanalitik görüşün odağında, farklı biçimlerde yapılanmış öznel dünyalar arasındaki karşılıklı etkileşim tarafından yaratılan intersübjektif alan bulunmaktadır. Gelişimsel çocuk-bakıcı sistemi içindeki intersübjektif etkileşimde yaşananlar, çocuğun benliğini bu etkileşimi temsil edecek tarzda biçimlendirir. Benliğin, intersübjektiviteyi içselleştirmesiyleyapılanmaya gitmesi intrasübjektiviteyi doğurur, intrasübjektivite, farklı benlik temsilleri arasında dinamik bir ilişki ağının bulunduğu intrapsişik alandır. Özne her yeni etkileşimle birlikte intrasübjektiviteyle dış dünyaya yeniden açılır ve intersübjektivitenin kurulmasına katkıda bulunur.

Intersubjectivity is a concept that has mainly been developed within the framework of self psychology and which has recently become the name of a theory. It seems that, the most important development in psychoanalysis over the past decade has been the growing recognition that intrapsychic phenomena must be considered with the context of the larger interactional system in which they are shoped. In the focus of this new paradigm, we find the intersubjective field which is constituted by the mutual interplay between differently organised subjectivities. Recurring patterns of intersubjective transaction within the developmental child-caregiver system organise the child's self so as to be the representation of this transaction. Organisation of the self via internalizing the intersubjectivity results in the formation of intrasubjectivity. intrasubjectivity is an intrapsychic field in which there is a dynamic transactional network between different self representations. The subject re-opens up to the external world via his intrasubjectivity within each new interaction and contributes to the formation of the intersubjectivity.
