Since it has been first defined by Melanie Klein, various ideas have been put forward about the concept of projective identification. Seen as a primitive deferise mechanism by some people, projective identification is a part of the process of transference in psychotherapy and also a form of communication for some others. In this article, projective identification is evaluated on the basis of the understanding which sees it as a form of communication and its meaning is discussed with respect to group psychotherapy.
