Psikiyatrların, insan davranışlarını etiketleme, aşırı sınıflandırma veya aşırı tıbbileştirme tutumları eleştiri konusu olmaktadır? Psikiyatride sürekli yenilenen resmi sınıflandırma sistemleri de aslında bu tutumun bir yansıması olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. Buradaki etik konu, psikiyatrın, yasalara ve mesleki yetkesine (otoritesine) dayanarak, insanlar üzerinde denetim ve yargı gücüne sahip oluşu ve bu gücün olası uzantılarıdır. Basın yayın organlarında sıkça rastlanan, bilgilendirme işlevini aşan ve "son söz" üslubu taşıyan, “mutlak yargılar "a vardıran psikiyatr demeçleri, toplumun psikiyatra ve psikiyatrın kendi kendisine yüklediği rollere ilişkin bir sorgulamayı gerektirmektedir. Bu yazıda psikiyatra yüklenen roller ile Godot beklentisinin benzerlik ve farklılıkları tartışılmıştır.

Over-labelling, over-classification and over-medicalisation of human behaviour, particularly by psychiatrists, is subject to criticism. The various editions of official psychiatric diagnostic and classification Systems can be seen as a reflection of this attitude. The ethical issue concerned here is related to the power and its possible extensions where by the psychiatrist may control people and which are derived from the law and his professional authority. The psychiatrists declurations pretending to be "the final word" or "the last judgement" commonly seen on the mass media, raise a question about the role attributed to the psychiatrist by the society as well as by himself. This paper discusses the similarities and differences between these attributions and the theme of Waiting for Godot.
