DSM-IV'te impuls kontrol bozuklukları başlığı altında sınıflandırılan trikotilomanide, tipik olan saç koparma davranışı hem impulsif hem de kompulsif özelliklere sahiptir. Bu gözlem; bu bozukluğun bir obsesif kompulsif spektrum bozukluğu olabileceği yönünde görüşlerin ortaya atılmasına neden olmuştur. Trikotilomani, bu bağlamda giderek araştırmacıların ilgisini çekmeye başlamıştır. Bu yazıda trikotilomani ile ilgili literatür gözden geçirilmiş ve bir obsesif kompulsif spektrum bozukluğu olarak trikotilomani tartışılmıştır.

Trichotillomania, classified as an impuls control disorder in DSM IV is characterized by hairpulling, an act which has both impulsive and compulsive features. This observation has led to the suggestion that the disorder lies within the obsessive-compulsive spectrum. In this context trichotillomania has been the focus of scientific research. In this article the literature on trichotillomania is reviewed and trichotillomania as an obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorder is discussed.
