Grief is a natural reaction to irrevocable loss This reaction is completed when the survivor shifts his energy to life apart from the lost Despite individual variations in the grieving process, generally investigators have proposed a process model, which includes three phas­es 1 Shock and denial 2 Discomfort and social withdrawal 3 Reorgonization Grieving process is affected by the individual's personality previous life experiences, the significance of the loss, the nature of the relationship with the lost, social networks, intercurrent life events, health Ifthe process is successfully completed, the grieving individual can return to work, the social roles and to go to the new targets Even, pathological grieving process impairs the indi­vidual's biopsyhcosocial functioning A lot of terms are used to be describe for pathological grief distorted grief, unresolved grief, atpical grief Pathological gnei is a distinct clinical entity A lot of risk factors for pathological gnef is identified Three patterns of complicated and dysfunctional grief have been described 1 Chronic grief 2 Hypertrophic grief 3 Delayed grief Despite the general agreement about the type of symptoms, diagnostic criteria for pathological grief have not been completely structured There is a new approach to the concept of pathological grief in the recent studies Prigerson and etc (1997) suggested the term of traumatic grief They have tried to structured the diagnostic criteria of the traumatic grief In this review, grief, pathological grief, traumatic grief, diagnostic cntena are tried to be addressed
