Bu çalışmada bedensel engeli olan ve olmayan üniversite öğrencilerinin yaşam yönetimi düzeyleri incelenmiştir. Araştırmaya 1991-1994 yıllan arasında dört farklı üniversitede öğrenim gören 94 bedensel engeli olan ue 94 bedensel engeli olmayan öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri Scheier ve Carver (1987) tarafından geliştirilen, Aydın ve Tezer (1991) tarafından Türkçeye kazandırılan “Yaşam Yönelimi Testi’’ (Life Orientation Test) ile toplanmıştır,; Araştırmada bedensel engeli olan ve olmayan üniversite Öğrencilerinin yaşam yönelimleri arasında cinsiyet, akademik başarı, engel türü ve derecesine göre farklılık olup olmadığına bakılmıştır. Yaşama olumlu bakış açısına sahip olmanın (iyimserliğin) cinsiyet, akademik başarı ve engel türüne göre anlamlı farklılık oluşturmadığı, yalnızca engelli olup olmama ile engel derecesine göre anlamlı farklılık oluşturduğu görülmüştür.

The purpose of the study is to explore the life orientation of the handicapped and non-handicapped college students. Ninety-four physically-handicapped and 94 non-handicapped college students from several universities participated in the study betiveen 1991-1994. The data ivere gathered with the Life Orientation Test ivhich was developed by Scheier and Carver (1987) and adapted to Turkish by Aydin and Tezer (1991). The difference between life orientation of handicapped and non-handicapped college students based upon sex, academic achievement (GPÂ), type and degree of handicapped ivere questioned. The results showed that the life orientation scores of students did not differ significantly by sex, school achievement, and type of handicap, the only significant difference was found in the degree of handicap. As degree of severity increased, pessimism scores increased as well.
