Bu çalışmanın amacı, üniversiteye devam etmekte olan gençler ile lise mezunu olan ancak üniversiteye devam etmeyen aynı yaş grubu bir grup genci, bazı değişkenlere göre, psikolojik belirtiler açısından karşılaştırmaktır. Araştırma 1999-2000 öğretim yılında 155 üniversite öğrencisi ile 141 üniversiteye devam etmeyen akranları olmak üzere 296 genç üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak Derogatis ve ark. (1977) tarafından geliştirilen Belirti Tarama Listesi (SCL-90-R) kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler üzerinde tek yönlü varyans analizi ile “t” testi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular gerek Genel Belirti Düzeyi (GSI), gerekse alt ölçekler açısından üniversiteye devam etmeyen gençlerin psikolojik belirti düzeyinin, devam edenlere göre anlamlı düzeyde yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca, her iki grubun kendi içinde cinsiyet, yaş, yerleşim yeri açısından psikolojik belirti alanlarında anlamlı farklılıklar saptanmıştır.

The purpose of this stiidy is to compare the university students and the high school graduates who are in the same age groiip but dont’t continue their education at the university level, in terms of psychological symptoms according to some variables. The research was conducted on a sample of 296 youngsters in the 1999- 2000 academic year. Symptom Check List (SCL-90-R) developed by Derogatis and his associates in 1977, w as used. The statistical analysis of the research data vvas realized by the application of the methods of one way analysis ofvariance and “t" test. Main research finding was that compared with the university students, the non- university attender high school graduates had a significantly higher level of psychological symptoms both in terms of the General Symptom Index (GSI) and the subscales.
