Psikiyatri mesleği ve uygulamaları bilimsel temelini üç temel bilim dalından almaktadır: biyoloji, sosyoloji ve psikoloji. Uzman psikiyatrist mesleğini uygularken karşılaştığı sorunların çözümünde bu üç bilim dalının sağladığı veriler ile hareket etmektedir. Bu gerçek ışığında Avrupa Tıp Uzmanları Birliği (UEMS) psikiyatri uzmanlık eğitimde söz konusu üç temel bilime eşit ağırlık verilmesini tavsiye etmiştir. UEMS'in önerdiği üç ayaklı eğitim modelinin kaynaklar ve eğiticiler açısından uygulanabilirliği görece daha kolay olanı nörobiyoloji gibi görünmektedir. Eğitim kurumları arasında psikiyatri uzmanlık öğrencilerine verilen nörobiyoloji yani biyolojik psikiyatri eğitiminde de içerik, yöntem ve miktar bakımından önemli farklılıklar vardır. Eğiticiler açısından bakıldığında da, hangi konuya ne ölçüde önem verilmesi gerektiği konusunda kesin bir uzlaşı yoktur. Bu yazıda nörobiyoloji eğitiminin içerik (müfredat) açısından tartışılması amaçlanmaktadır. Konu, büyüme ve gelişme, genetik, sinir Bilimleri (neuroscience), nörokimya, nörofizyoloji, bilişsel psikoloji, nöroanatomi, biyolojik Risk Etkenleri, psikofarmakoloji gibi başlıklar içinde ele alınarak, eğitimin nasıl ve ne zaman yapılması gerektiği ile ilgili görüşler tartışılmaya çalışılacaktır.

The profession of psychiatry and its practice is scientifically based on three main sciences: Biology, sociology and psychology. The specialized psychiatrist acts leaning on the data provided by these three main sciences in order to solve the problems he faces in practicing his profession. In the light of this fact the Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS) recommended to place equal emphasis on the said three main sciences during psychiatric specialization. Neurobiology seems to be regarding sources and trainers the one, which is relatively easier feasible according to the suggestion of the UEMS. Among the educational institutions there are considerable differences in respect of content, method and quantity concerning the education of trainees for psychiatric specialization in neurobiology or biological psychiatry. And looking at the issue from the viewpoint of trainers there is no exact agreement on the question, how much importance is to be given to which subject. The purpose of this article is to discuss the neurobiological education with regard to curriculum. The subject shall be dealt under titles such as growing and development, genetics, neuroscience, neurochemistry, neurophysiology, cognitive psychology, neuroanatomy, biological risk factors, psychopharmacology etc. and opinions concerning how and when the education should take place shall be discussed.
