EKT tedavisinde amaç hızlı etkin ve komplikasyonsuz bir sonuç elde etmektir. Günümüzde EKT uygulamaları çoğunlukla anestezi altında yapılmaktadır. Bu nedenle EKT uygulanacak hastaların ameliyata alınacak hastalar gibi tam bir preoperatif değerlendirmeye tabi tutulmaları, hasta ve yakınlarının tedavi konusunda bilgilendirilmesi ve izin alınması gereklidir. Yapılan preoperatif değerlendirmede tedavinin etkinliğini değiştirebilecek etkenler ve tedavi sırasında oluşabilecek riskler belirlenir ve olası komplikasyonlarla ilgili önlemler alınır. Bu yazıda bu süreçle ilgili literatür gözden geçirilmiştir.

The aim of Electroconvulsive therapy is to get a fast , effective and uncomplicated result. Current ECT administrations are mostly done with anaesthesia. For this reason the patients who will receive ECT must be considered as a preoperative candidate, so that they have to be assessed detailed and the patient and their relatives must be informed about the ECT and informed consent must be received. In this assesment the factors affecting the efficiacy of the treatment, possible risk factors and complications can be determined and precautions can be taken. In this article the literature about ECT process is reviewed.
