Bu çalışmanın amacı, Belçika’daki ikinci nesil Türk göçmenlerin ayrımcılık algılarının seviyesini şehir bağlamında karşılaştırmak ve bu algıları etkileyen faktörleri araştırmaktır. TIES (Avrupalı İkinci Kuşağın Entegrasyonu) projesi verileri kullanılarak, iki temel sorunun cevaplanması hedeflenmiştir: (1) Belçika’daki iki şehirde (Brüksel ve Anvers) algılanan grup ayrımcılığı seviyesinde önemli farklar var mıdır? (2) İki şehir içinde kimler daha fazla grup ayrımcılığı algılamaktadır? Bu soruları cevaplamak için sosyo-demografik dağılım etkilerininin kontrol edilmesi gerekir. Buna göre iki şehirdeki Türk göçmen nüfusunu sosyo-demografik açıdan karşılaştırılabilir hale getirmek için eğilim skoru eşleştirmesi kullanılmıştır. İlk araştırma sorusuyla ilgili olarak, eğilim skor eşleştirmesi yapıldıktan sonra ampirik analizler Anvers’de yaşayan ikinci nesil Türk göçmenlerin Brüksel’dekilere göre daha fazla grup ayrımcılığı algıladıklarını göstermektedir. Bu şehirlerarası farkı, Anvers’deki etnik çeşitliliğin daha düşük olması, siyasette göçmenler konusundaki olumsuz hava ve etnik çoğunluğun dışlayıcı tutumu ile ilişkilendiriyoruz. İkinci araştırma sorusuna karşılık ise analizler sosyo-ekonomik açıdan daha entegre ve oturduğu şehirdeki gruplararası ilişkileri daha düşmanca değerlendiren ikinci kuşak Türklerin daha fazla grup ayrımcılığı algıladıklarını göstermiştir. Eğilim skoru eşleştirmesinin bulgulara etkisi de tartışılmaktadır

This study investigates the effects of city context on the levels and predictors of perceived group discrimination among Turkish Second Generation immigrants in Belgium. Based on the TIES (The Integration of the European Second Generation) data, we address two main questions: (1) Are there significant differences in the levels of perceived group discrimination between the two cities in Belgium (Antwerp and Brussels)? (2) Who perceives more group discrimination within each city? To answer these questions, possible composition effects should be controlled. Accordingly, we use propensity score matching to make second generation immigrant samples from the two cities reasonably comparable with respect to socio-demographic characteristics. Concerning the first research question, we find that after propensity score matching the Turkish second-generation perceive more group discrimination in Antwerp than in Brussels. We explain this in terms of the lower levels of ethnic diversity, a more negative political climate, and exclusionary majority attitudes in Antwerp. With regards to the second research question, we find that those who are more socio-economically integrated and those who perceive more hostile group relations in their city are more likely to perceive group discrimination. Implications of the use of propensity score matching for identifying city differences are discussed.
