Zekanın ölçme ve değerlendirmesi, Spearman'ın ikili 'g' kuramından başlayıp günümüze kadar gelen uzun bir tarihçeye sahiptir. Bugün, özgün ve saygı duyulan bir bilimsel çalışma alanı olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bu yazıda, zeka testleri alanının gelişimsel tarihçesi Wechsler ölçeklerinin evrimi çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Kamphaus (1997), çağdaş zeka testlerinin gelişim sürecini birbirini izleyen dört tarihsel dönem içinde tanımlamaktadır: (1) Tekil bir puanla genel Zeka düzeyinin ölçümü, (2) Klinik profil analizi, (3) Psikometrik profil analizi ve (4) Zeka kuramına dayanan ölçüm araçlarının geliştirilmesi. Ek olarak, son döneme ait zeka testlerinin iyi bir örneği olan WÇZÖ-IV detaylı olarak tartışılmıştır. WÇZÖ-IV'teki gelişmeler (1) norm grubundaki gelişmeler, (2) testtin yapısındaki gelişmeler ve (3) test sonuçlarının yorumundaki gelişmeler olmak üzere üç alt başlık altında tartışılmıştır.

Field of intelligence testing and interpretation has a long history that started from Spearman dual intelligence theory up to now. Today it's accepted as a specific and respectable scientific study area. In this article, developmental history of Intelligence test field was described in the frame of Wechsler scales evaluation. Kamphaus (1997), elaborate the developmental process of modern intelligence tests within four historically sequencing periods: (1) Measurement and interpretation of IQ with a single score, 'g'; (2) period of clinical profile analysis; (3) period of psychometric profile analysis, and at last period, (4) production of theory based intelligence measurement devices. In this article, also, WISC-IV which is a good example of intelligence test belonging to last period was examined. Improvements in WISC-IV were discussed under three subtitles as (1) improvement in norm group, (2) improvement in test structure, and (3) improvement in interpretation of test results.
